Lab 2020

Future-Proof R&D Laboratories

Life Sciences are central fields of innovation in the 21st century. In this research intense area of biotechnological and pharmaceutical industry, dealing with knowledge and innovation is of crucial importance. Both here and in other areas as well competition and the need for an increasing productivity increase steadily.
In the unique project »Lab 2020«, operated by Fraunhofer IAO, future oriented solutions for efficient and productive laboratories are being developed. In the project the working environment of laboratories is seen from a work-pattern based architectural and technological perspective.

Applied Research

Practical yet »state of the scientific and technical knowledge« competencies regarding R&D environments stem especially from the application-oriented approach of »Lab 2020«. National and international user studies and work-pattern analyses take into account current trends as well as future work/design developments of laboratories.

Next to this a broad innovation network was established in combination with good- and best-practice analyses. Among others the following companies and institute are examples of the extensive networking and scientific exchange:

AstraZeneca (SE)

GlaxoSmithKline (UK)

Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology (DE)

Merck Serono (CH)

Novo Nordisk (DK)

Parc de Recerca Biomèdica de Barcelona (ES)

Queen Mary, University of London (UK)

Science Park Amsterdam (NL)

Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute (UK)
